TRIP REPORT: Roan Highlands Adventure

Trail: Roan Bluffs, Appalachian Trail, Grassy Ridge Bald
Weather: The temperature was well below freezing all day and dropped a good bit as we gained elevation on each trail. Snow and ice were present on the trail and we got a few flurries. Extremely high winds at Roan High Bluff and across the balds.
Notes: I met my buddy Doug at Carvers Gap just after sunrise. We first hiked to Roan High Bluff and the Roan High Knob Shelter where we took a short break. The winds were intense as we made our way along the ice and snow covered trail. The second leg of our hike was out along the AT and the Grassy Ridge Bald Trail. We summited Round Bald, Jane Bald and Grassy Ridge Bald as an out and back crossing each one twice.
